What home remedy has been used to relieve the pain of a mashed fingernail?

The only thing I have found to really work is, well this is kinda gross but if you have blood built up under the nail you need to get it out. If you don't it will be a long time before it stops hurting. You are going to need to go to the doctor or get it out yourself. You can take a needle and heat the head up with a bic lighter and then press to the nail where the blood is. It will go through nearly painlessly. After that the pain should go away in about a half hour to an hour depending on the amount of blood under there. If you do not have a blood pocket then just ice will work along with some tylenol or advil. What home remedy has been used to relieve the pain of a mashed fingernail?
This happened to me 5 months ago and the pain was excruciating and 5 months on my nail has not fully recovered yet as most of the damage was on that portion of the nail not yet grown through. Don't worry about trapped blood. Taking pain killers will help. The pain should subside after a week but the nail and area around the nail will feel strange for much longer whilst the damaged nail is still in place. Healing takes time and from my own experience I can say it can take up to 6 months to have a fully normal looking nail again. The nail may or may not fall off...mine did not. If you have any tingling in your finger then seek medical advice asap. Keep taking the pain killers....ibuprofen will help with both the pain and any inflammation.

Tea tree oil is a good pain killer. Just drip in on undiluted. It will also keep down the risk of infection. Then wrap in a soft cloth bandage so you won't keep bumping it.

Edit: To make a hole in the nail takes a sterile instrument and experienced hands If it's that bad, go to the ER clinic.
you could try applying clove oil. Is a natural analgesic. When I had dry sockets, they filled them with cloth soaked in it. Helped alot.
I would suggest ice and Ibuprofein
