How they were clipped before this invention though is a good question. I suppose people could easily bite off their fingernails when they got too long, but that still leaves the toenails. First, most people can't get their toes to their mouths. Second, those that can reach probably don't want to stick their toes into their mouths. I would assume that toenails were allowed to grow quite long and could then be removed with a common knife.

I take biotin daily. Makes my hair and nails grow super fast. Just get it at Walmart in the vitamin section. Also I was a nail chewer. Couldnt break the habit no matter how fast my nails grew. I went and had acrylic tips put on for a few years and havent had any desire to chew them since having the tips removed. Plus my hands looked really nice while I was breaking that terrible habit.

I don't think Sarah is correct. I used 2 work at a Chemical Plant %26amp; acetone is the only thing that will get it out. Get both Acetone %26amp; non-acetone %26amp; C the difference. I'd let U B the judge.Some nail removers have a tendancy 2 discinigrate fabric. It depends on your thread count. The lower the count the worse the fabric. Another thing U have 2 B aware of is colored fabric.





Make sure U have a clean WHITE COTTON towel or old COTTON shirt 2 rub with, acetone dries very quickly. After U R done U should also rinse under warm water 2 C see how much nail polish is left. OK Two things you should leave it alone. However if it is causing you pain I would suggest dipping it in clove oil. This will make the top of your finger go numb and is better than any pain killer. well hmm i think what you can do is: cut the nail (not from where it broke, but if its long then shorten it ) this will prevent it from gettin stuck, scratchin,etc. If you have clear nail polish then apply it. Put nail strenghtener on it! Any drugstore will have nail strengthener, which is like clear nail polish, but it really helps your nails get stronger. Also, after the strengthener dries bandaid it again for about a week or two, removing it once a day to reapply the strengthener. It worked for me!
well hon try filing it as much as u can wihtout making it hurt, and then u just have to leave it and try not to touch it !


maybe putting on a base coat would help it harden, and then u just have to wait to grow it out.

i just did that today! but i accidentally put too much so now my polish is a lil too thin, but still works great! so go for it, just be careful when you do it. add a little bit, shake it up a bit to mix it together. if you need to add a little bit more until you get it to your desired consistency
Yes you can do that but sometimes the polish will dry to a dull finish so you need to cover it with a clear polish to get the shine back
Nah its not that great. It works for a little while but then it gets whatery and oily and the colr doesnt stay and it is ruined. Just try NYC nail polish its only 99 cents for a full sized bottle u can get it at drugstores
go to the beauty supply and get pure acetone, or specially made thinner. i think regular nail polish remover can change the composition of the nail polish when there are other additives in it like conditioners...
I did that and it worked very well. I would highly recommend that.

Nail Fungus is awful and was the bain of my life for a while. I tried a load of different things, salt water (helped with the fungus but not help my nail) vics vapour rub (worked well but I smelt all the time LOL, also when I stopped it came back) I was too scared to use the doctors drugs as the side effects were kidney problems, needing regular blood taking just to make sure I was OK!!





I started looking into natural solutions, someone recommended upping my protein intake as it would make my nails stronger (which I have done now I've got rid of the fungus)





An online forum pointed me in the direction of a natural fungus ointment (my finger cream as it's now known in my house LOL) It has worked a dream. But the prescription that is filled by your doctor is always the best. My doctor onetime gave me Penlac Nail Lacquer which works well for nail fungus.

If you only need one nail to reach a certain length, have only that one nail repaired. The manicurist can apply a tip and then put a thin silk wrap on so that you do not have one thick acrylic nail. You can also apply a ';fake nail'; to that nail and then coat all the nails in the same polish. I'm guessing this is for a special occasion. Unless you are going to keep up the acrylic set, I wouldn't recommend getting them put on for one day - once they are off, it takes a while for your nails to recover.

My coffee comes in a vacuum-seal pouch, so no foil. I have poor fingernails though, so I would probably skim a knife blade around the edge if mine did come in a can.

Cut it as low as you can without it hurting. Wrap a band-aid over it (with the pad over the nail) slightly looser than you would over a cut. This will protect it from bumping into things. Trim it as it grows out until the break is completely grown out.

I've never seen one, and i think they probably don't exist, as i can't think of a safe way that it could work. Circular ones are also more effective. So unless you want to invent your own or your grandpa wants to use a belt sander. I think your out of luck. I'm assuming your grandpa has a hard time handing small things like normal nail clippers. They do make special nail clippers with bigger handles for this reason. Or a scissor type nail clipper might work better.

It sounds a little infected. A little cellulitis around your nail area which may have happened as a result of picking at a hangnail or pulling it off. It hurts, right? Best to leave it alone, or if it gets excruciating, dab some triple antibiotic ointment on it (like Neosporin) and loosely wrap a bandaid around it and overnight it should be better. I hate when i get those, so i know how uncomfortable they are.

Take a q-tip and dip it in the remover. That way, you won't have to ruin the rest of your manicure.
If you want to avoid this sort of thing in the future, Sally's has a product called 'HandsDown Ultra,' which are nail %26amp; cosmetic pads. on my hand . i wet a finger and gently rub the smugged polish back into position. this may sound gross but you can lick the polish back in its place and then pat it down gently. if you need to remove it and start over use a q tip to rub polish remover over nail. that helps keep other fingers from getting polish remover. all this works for me good luck. being ambidextrous helps too ;)

you don't actually have to remove all the polish and repaint. dab a little bit of nail polish remover on your index finger of your other hand - not directly on the smudged nail!- and use that finger to gently go over the area where the smudge is. if the polish has not set entirely, you should actually be able to smooth out the smudged area!

Dry skin? Very bad dry skin if you can hear it crunching when you pinch it!
Put Vaseline on them every day...makes em smoother and softer..and it last all day
Did you recently have a baby? Sometimes during pregnancy the areola becomes darker and after birth that will become lighter and sometimes peel off.





If not, put some lotion on them. I do it daily, along with my hands, elbows, etc.

You can tattoo any area of skin, so yes, you can tattoo the skin under a nail just like anywhere else. If you use a dark ink you should be able to see it.





But... this will hurt ALOT, and if you did remove the entire nail it would take a really long time to grow back properly. It should completely heal if you don't pull the root of the nail out, but it will be a very slow and painful process. Since your nail is attached to the skin underneath it, once you remove it the skin will be very sensitive and painful, but it will harden when it's been exposed for long enough, and after a while it can take a long time for the nail to reattach.





So... do it as close to the end of your finger as possible so you don't have to remove alot of nail! If you could convince someone to do it through the nail that would be better, but you probably can't (unless your best friend is a tattoo artist or something) since it's pretty hard to pierce nail with a needle.

I would not recommend doing this for several reasons:





1. You will open your skin up for further infections. Which will cause your acne to become worse.





2. You also have the chance of getting extra scarring. Depending on how deep the pimple is it will leave a permanent mark known as ';pockmarks'; due to the scarring.





There are several treatments for acne, depending on your budget and your insurance. If you have health insurance, you need to find a good dermatologist. Do not waste your money on proactiv or the other store junk. A dermatologist can recommend a good medication such as Benzaclin gel etc. Which works very well. They might also recommend a Retin-A treatment at night.

I don't think everybody thinks that. I see girls with it all the time, celebrities as well (Lauren Conrad if you can call her a celebrity). There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. People have different opinions, but don't worry about it! Just make sure that you put on clear-coat nail polish before you put on any dark colored nail polish on your nails because the dark color could damage your nails. :D

You might want to just use a razor blade to scrape off the blue polish. Just take your time.





Any type of paint remover may also remove the finish from the wood - which could just make things worse.





After removing the paint use a good polish. There is also some refinisher you can get a Home Depot that you just wipe on that could also help cover any scrapes you make when removing the polish.

I used to carry them in my purse. Simply because, I have an odd habit of breaking a nail part of the way off, and a lot of times you don't want to tear it the rest of the way so you don't rip skin or anything underneath. Sounds like a fungus infection.


My mom had a very similar thing happen to her (ie. slamming the finger nail, having it grow in again) and it discolouring after a few years.





The doctor ended up saying that it was a fungus infection and that she'd need to be in medications for a while. That includes a 6 month treatment. It takes a LONG time to clear up...





Probably NOT the answer you want, but it certainly sounds the same....





Go to the doctor, get some meds, and be paitent while the new nail comes in :)

Try using denture cleaning tablets. Prepare the mixture according to the instructions on the box, then soak your nails in it for about 5 minutes. It may take more than one try though.


Also, squeeze the juice from a lemon ot two. Then soak your nails in it for 3-5 minutes. Wash your hands well after soaking them.


Some people have reported having good luck using a diluted mixture of bleach and water. Don't make it strong though. Use only about 5-10 drops for a cup of water. Soak fot 3-5 minutes, and definitaly wash your hands well after you are through.

Not good!! The best way to fix this would be to remove the finish from the whole top, lightly sand until smooth and check the color. If it is close enough polyurethane the top with at least 2 thin coats, more coats are better. If not close re-stain top and then poly. Sorry about the dresser and the fact that Dean is absolutely right! Only way to fix it is to strip the surface of the dresser and to mix and match until you find the stain to match and then poly it (3-4 coats for the same shine that a furniture store has and you'll need to lightly sand it between coats of poly). I think you may have to just wait it out. You know how if you leave nail polish on your skin that it eventually wears off, that may be your only option cause I think that most removers would not be safe. Some kids cut their hair (and some get gum in it) and have to look a little foolish for a while; yours just got into nail polish. I've seen some that got into the permanent markers too, it can be messy and maybe even embarrassing, but children bring us back to reality and make remember the foolishness there is in life. Take a lot of photos so you can joke about it when she is older, it will be priceless I'm sure.

I have a friend who has this even though all her other nails are normal. It's something she was born with and drs have ruled out any fungus and can't figure out what else it would be. It is very difficult for her to trim and it rips to the quick and bleeds rather often unless she has artificial nails over it. Due to the makeup of it, there is no way to file it down smoothly. No matter how it is trimmed if even possible (it's so thick she can't even do that without it ripping), it grows back with the same thickness and appearance. I have 3 kids and have a lot of experience doing this! Yes you can try nail polish remover. Be careful to just dab it, don't rub it or the nail polish will spread. Ask me how I know.





What I have found works best is to just cut it off. Use some sharp scissors or a sharp knife and go for it. You just clip off the very tip of the carpet strands (unless it is a loop carpet) and you will barely notice. Okay, this will sound weird, but can you see a little splotch of blood under your nail? If not, go with a bandaid and don't type. Okay dude...I had a wart on my finger and in one of my not so lucid moments, I tried to cut it off with the finger nail clippers. DO NOT DO IT. That mo fo hurt! Go to the doctor and have in burned off! Btw...I no longer have the wart :)

Rumor has it you're supposed to tie them off with a bit of string until the tag dies off, the clip away. I'd use a sterilized clippers.
I've done that with finger nail clippers. But it was just a small one and was driving me nuts, so I just did it.

Can I put a fake nail where my fingernail fell off?

I recently slammed my finger in a car door and the nail is already loosened and will eventually fall off. I'm wondering if I will be able to put a fake nail on the skin underneath the fingernail. I don't want to gross people out when I don't have a fingernail but I don't know if I should be putting that glue on the sensitive skin of my fingertip.

Don't use a fake nail. The wound needs to heel without anything foreign on it. The glue from the fake nails could agitate it and even make it become infected. In the long run your nail may be back like normal , may not depends on how much damage it has.


the best way is ask your doctor if It can come back and what medicine may help them back faster .


in the future after it totally recover and you still not see it back to normal , fake nail on can be an option.

You have to go to a doctor. It is a minor procedure, and your problem should be solved in no time. Don't delay - pus means infection, and it could cause complications if you don't get it treated immediately.

Soak in peroxide and/or alcohol then get yourself to your doctor. Infections in this area are hard to treat because of all the bacteria and stuff you get under your nails. He will give you a loacl pain killer and then take plyers and pull off your nail. It will grow back and he will tell you how to prevent it from coming back.
Try vinegar soaks. If doesnt help and is infected, see foot doctor to take it out.
