What can I do to get rid of or help heal an ingrown fingernail?

I think it's an ingrown nail. It is sore and swollen around the side of my nail and when i just hit it on something puss came out of it.What can I do to get rid of or help heal an ingrown fingernail?
Soak it in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water 2 to 3 times a day to draw out the pus. From now on when you cut your nails cut straight across so that the ends of the nails cannot grow into the skin.If it continues see a doctor for antibiotics. What can I do to get rid of or help heal an ingrown fingernail?
It's a good answer.. but to your rating for it.. she didnt tell you WHY its there, she told how to prevent it.... and recommended medical assistance if it persists

Wind, Why would you put fingernail polish on it!? That's will block the air and make it worse!

I don't know why a nurse would recommend cutting a fingernail straight across...fingernails are supposed to be rounded, just not too rounded to where it causes an ingrown fingernail. TOENAILS are supposed to be cut more straight across.

hydrogen peroxide is not recommended because it ends up harming healthy tissue. you're supposed to soak it in plain old warm water or water with Epsom salts and then use an antibiotic ointment.

My grandfather got gangrene from an ingrown toe nail...these needs to be taken care of immediately from a foot specialist...

Some ways to aviod ingrown toe nails...

1. ALWAYS cut your toenail straight accrossed.

2. Make sure your shoes arnt to small, these will cause you toe nails to grow into the skin.

She didn't say how to get it out. I had an ingrown nail. I would apply outward pressure. Do this when the nail is grown out a little, but not when it is out a lot. Basically it has to be a little long, but not too long. If it is too long, the outward pressure might bend the nail and cause pain.

Soak it in epsom salt.
well, you have to get the ingrown nail out first...of cause its going to be painful than clean the area and dry it.. than put some nail polish on.. it will be ok in a few days. i always use this method with an ingrown nail.
