Is it true that fingernail polish gets sticky when used under a ceiling fan?

A few people have told me that if I paint my finger nails while the ceiling fan is on in the room, the polish will become sticky in the bottle and extremely hard to use later. Is this true?Is it true that fingernail polish gets sticky when used under a ceiling fan?
This simply happens because the cold air being pushed into the bottle will dry out the alcohol in the polish. Because the alcohol is part of what keeps the polish's smooth, shiny consistency; after a while, all that is left is the ';sticky'; paint. If the bottle is left open, this process will happen regardless of whether or not there is a fan on in the room, just a lot slower.

tip: when using the polish, use a playing card or small piece of damp paper towel to cover the lid in between dips of the brush. This will keep the polish in the bottle from drying out.Is it true that fingernail polish gets sticky when used under a ceiling fan?
i dont think so but maybe i never even thot about that ( =
It does get a little sticky because there is air blowing at your hands and it will dry the polish quicker but make it hard to paint your nails. It also gets sticky if you try to polish them outside or in an area that gets really hot and humid.

  • My friend has like this black tar stuff in his fingernail?

My friend dropped a hammer on his finger but he didnt break it. A few day later there was this gross tar stuff in his fingernail. He is really weird so he took a safety pin and tried to put a hole in his fingernail. He barely had to push and it just collapsed and there was this hole in it. It was very gross to look at and thank god he finally put a band aid on it. Whats up with his finger and how should he fix it?My friend has like this black tar stuff in his fingernail?
He can't fix it, it will repair on it's own. In time the gross part of his nail will, as it grows will come to the end like the rest of his nails and he just keeps trimming it until only fresh nail is there. Finger nails and toe nails are calcium. They continue to grow and you cut them, yet they still grow.

The reason it looks tarrish is due to dried blood that was not absorbed by his finger. When he hit his finger with the hammer he broke the tiny blood vessels; they bleed under his fingernail and had no where to bleed out due to the tightness of his fingernail upon his finger. The blood caused the nail to rise a bit. When the majority of the blood was absorbed by his finger there was still remnants left that dried. The nail where it rose became a hollow, thus the nail collapsed as that part of the nail had been decayed.

Had your friend heated up a sewing needle and gently touched the surface of his fingernail over the spot where he hit it and the blood pooled, a small hole would have occurred and blood would have spurted out relieving the pressure. He'd have no caved in, tar looking finger nail now. The great thing about the needle trick . . . is it is totally painless and once the pressured is released his finger starts to not only feel better right away, but heals quicker. You can do this with toe nails as well.My friend has like this black tar stuff in his fingernail?
    You are most welcome.

It's really not a big deal. It's pretty normal for a traumatized finger(toe)nail to that. But tell your friend next time (hopefully it will never happen again) to use a hot needle and clean it afterward to cut down on infection.
That's dried up blood. He should just let the nail grow out. It will go away.

How do you get fingernail polish out of the carpet?

Nail polish remover, Baby, and a lot of elbow grease!

What you need to do is get some nail polish remover and pour a small amount upon the ';infected'; area. Get an old towel and dab that sucker. Don't rub because that's just going to spread the nail polish you're cleaning up.

After you get all the nail polish up, make sure to get water down on your carpet and dry it, unless you want water stains left behind.

Oh, and the nail polish may not all come out, but most of it should.

And, depending on the color of the carpet, you could always use bleach. How do you get fingernail polish out of the carpet?
I heard that simple green works. If you dont have that on hand try shaving cream, oxyclean, bathroom cleaner or a brillo pad. If all fail then just break out the scissors. I dont have carpet but if i did i would be trying all types of cleaning products. How do you get fingernail polish out of the carpet?
    Fingernail Polish Remover or Acetone
I think you are probably screwed. You might try a dab of polish remover in an inconspicuous spot (a closet maybe) to see if it will discolor the carpet. If not, you could try that.

If that's not an option, I would either call a professional carpet cleaner for additional advice or service OR you could cut out the square where the polish is and replace it with extra carpet (if you have any) or trade squares with a piece from the closet. (This may also be a job for a professional depending on your level of DIY expertise.)\
you could try fingernail revover but i mite lighten your carpet colour. but if its a light coluor then try it
let it dry if the area is not too big. then pick or shave the polish off. If you use fingernail polish remover, make sure that it will not bleach or stain the carpet. blot and scrub. good luck
If the stain is not very big try nail polish remover blot a little on the stain or use thin scissors and cut the carpet fibers that are stained.
well my naibors got a shampoo vacuum and it got it out instantly
Windex and three minutes of soft srubing works very well.

I cut my fingernail almost in half with a shaver and now my hand feels funny?

It was bleeding alot in the shower but I put pressure on it and it stopped after 5 mins or so.. my hand currently feels numb. What could this be? It is not blood loss I know that.. and could I get HIV from this happening ?I cut my fingernail almost in half with a shaver and now my hand feels funny?
it is probably numb because you hit a nerve. if it was deep then you could have caused some nerve damage which is causing the numbness. not necessarily permanent damage but you will just have to give it time to see. in regard to the HIV you would have to be more clear on the circumstances. HIV cannot survive for periods of time outside the body. so on a razor the virus would die before you used it. only place it has shown to survive outside the body is in syringes since it has the ability to not dry out.so what im trying to get it is no you are safe from HIV unless you had direct fluid contact with someone infected but not from a razor.I cut my fingernail almost in half with a shaver and now my hand feels funny?
No you can't get HIV thats a blood TRANSMITTED disease or sexually transmitted, It could just be you putting alot of pressure on it that sometimes stops circulation of the blood and causes it to feel numb. I fit's just numb maybe you should get it checked out.
It's probably just mild shock from the injury. And unless people with HIV have been shaving themselves in your shower and cutting themselves, there's no chance you can get HIV from it.
does your hand maybe feel like you cut your finger nail in half?

How do you make this part of your fingernail longer?

My fingernails look similar to toenails! They're not so bad that they're wider than they are long, but still! So, I'm just wondering, how do you make the part before the white growth of your fingernails longer? (The part that's attached to your finger.)How do you make this part of your fingernail longer?
you cant really do anything about that.. its all gentics.. so manybe if your moms or dads nails are like that.. that probably where you got it from.. but i would say the only thing you can do to make it look longer is to use fake nails.. thats the only way but for you to change it in any other way.. theres not.. just love what you got..How do you make this part of your fingernail longer?
just go to a nail salon that would help
There are certain polishes that make your nails grow.....

Go to your local drugstore or Target and look in the beauty section.I'd suggest a Sally Hansen product...they tend to work the best

I spilled fingernail polish remover on my new wooden table and it gave it a texture how do fix it?

It's a brand new wooden table and it spilled through the towel and it has a white textured feeling to it and I need to know how to get rid of it without refurnishing...I spilled fingernail polish remover on my new wooden table and it gave it a texture how do fix it?
Your new table is almost certainly finished with lacquer, an acetone-based varnish. The acetone in your nail polish has softened the lacquer and the texture of the towel did the rest.

To repair: tightly mask the edges of the table with 2'; masking tape. Using the least possible amount, soften the remaining lacquer on the tabletop with acetone and scrape it off with a

1 1/2 inch putty knife, scraping from the outside edge toward the center. When finished, wipe the top clean and let it dry overnight. Smoothly apply 2 coats of Urethane high gloss finish with a good quality brush (fine bristles). Apply the Urethane very smoothly to avoid air bubbles.

You will have a better, more durable finish on your tabletop that will now withstand most mishaps.

Good luck.I spilled fingernail polish remover on my new wooden table and it gave it a texture how do fix it?
Clean the spotted or scratched area with a rag dabbed with mineral spirits (low-odor paint thinner available at paint stores) to remove dust, dirt and debris.

Pour furniture oil such as Danish oil on very fine steel wool until saturated.

Going with the grain, gently rub the steel wool on the scratched or spotted area. Keep the steel wool well oiled. To prevent surface damage, always scrub gently and carefully when using steel wool on wood.

Continue gently scrubbing until the blight is removed, taking care not to mar the wood underneath the finish.

Dust away fine powder with a tack cloth or rag Apply stain, paint or other finish as needed i had one of my kids do this same thing to a night stand years ago and this did the trick
It feels like that because the nailpolish remover took off the varnish. The only way to fix it is to sand the table and repaint/revarnish.
Sorry, but I think you're pooched. You have to refinish.
    polish it

Does anyone know how to remove a sliver that is under my fingernail?

I got a piece of fir wood under my nail, it is diagonally under the nail, and I can't reach the end of it with tweezers, to pull it out.Does anyone know how to remove a sliver that is under my fingernail?
this is going to hurt but not as bad as if you leave the splinter to get infected. Take a pair of clippers and cut you nail as short as you can so you can get closer to the splinter. Then using a sterile needle try to prod the sliver out. If you can't get it out after you have cut the nail take an egg yolk and mix it with enough salt to make a paste glop it on the finger and cover with a bandage this poltice with help draw the sliver out over the next day or so. Check it daily and wash with soap and water and see if you can reach it with tweezers yet if not add more egg goo (left over egg goo can be refridgerated for about a week if cover or wrapped tightly) and rebandage. Or you can go to the doctor or ER and have the finger numbed and the splinter dug outDoes anyone know how to remove a sliver that is under my fingernail?
Try Smile's Prid Homeopathic Salve and a bandaid. It's a drawing salve and may take a few days. I've had very good luck with that.

What do you do when your fingernail comes all the way off ?

No joke answers. Really upset. Hit my thumbnail a few times at work. I had salon nails on. Then it was lifted off the skin for two weeks. Now finally it came off and a nail is starting to grow1/3 the way up. Will it grow straight. How do I fight getting an infection ? Cover it or not ? HELP !!What do you do when your fingernail comes all the way off ?
ouch. Just put sterile gause on it and wait. That simple, but the pain isnt. =(What do you do when your fingernail comes all the way off ?
It's better being completely off than half off. Just relax, everything will be fine. The nail will grow straight with no help from you. If it's sensitive, keep it covered (loosely), but you don't need to cover it just to keep it clean. If it's tender or red or painful, it might be infected or ingrown and it might be a good idea to see a doctor. Otherwise, all will be well. Don't worry about it.

I had an ingrown toenail when I was in high school. It got really badly infected, to the point where I could hardly walk. I went to the doctor and after deadening the toe with novocaine he surprised (and shocked!) me by pulling the toenail off with a pliers! When the nail grew back, it was funny-looking, yellowish and thick and misshapen. The doctor told me it was because the root of the nail had been infected, so it was like scar tissue.

Years later, in college I lost that toenail again in a motorcycle accident. It hit the inside of my boot, turned black, and fell off. The new nail was already growing beneath it, just as in your case. The new nail grew clear and straight and smooth! It's been like that since!
Keep it clean, put an antiseptic cream on it (read instructions as to how much). It will grow back fine, just do not mess with it. I lost my thumb nail too, but when I was about 12. It is ok now. Do not cover it because then it will sweat and that isn't good, needs to dry out.
You let it come off because

    what else can you do

i am in boat and it's pretty gross

but all you do is wait for it to heal.

How fast does the average human fingernail grow?

    There are a number of variables that may affect nail growth;

1.)Nail growth is different from person to person and from finger to finger.

The nail on the middle finger grows the fastest and the nail on the little

    finger grows the slowest.

2.)Nails grow from 0.05 to 1.2 millimeters per week. If a nail is lost, it

may take seven (7) months to grow out fully.

3.) Biting fingernails, while detrimental to their health in other ways, is

thought to make them grow faster.

4.)Mens nails grow faster than womens do. However, women will experience a

spurt in nail growth just before menstruation and during pregnancy. These

growth spurts are thought to be in response to hormonal activity. How fast does the average human fingernail grow?
about as fast as the Atlantic Rift separates,

you would be equivalent to about 3 millimeters per week

What are the little white dots that sometimes show up in your fingernail?

I always thought they were from a lack of zinc, until your question prompted me to find this- thanks for the reminder.

';There are many myths surrounding those mysterious white spots on fingernails that occasionally show up, but the simple truth is that the majority of white spots on fingernails are caused by a previous injury to the nail bed. They can be loosely compared to bruises on the skin.

';If you notice white spots, also known as leukonychia, on your nails, they unlikely to have been caused by a vitamin or mineral deficiency. In a few cases, white spots on fingernails can indicate an underlying infection, but much more commonly, they are the result of injury. Similar to bruising, white spots on fingernails do not show up immediately. It may take several days or weeks before you notice the spots. Because they are generally the result of a minor injury, you are likely to have forgotten all about banging your fingernail against the car door.

';White spots on fingernails are usually not the result of serious injury to the nail, such as being hit with a hammer, which would more likely result in dark blue to black spots and possible necrosis or death of the nail tissue. Fingernails grow at an average rate of half an inch per month, so most visible injuries to the nail take about eight weeks to grow out completely. Sometimes, white spots on fingernails fade before they completely grow out.

';Some of the common myths associated with white spots on fingernails claim they are the result of a calcium deficiency or eating too much mayonnaise. While these white spots may be the result of a zinc deficiency, it is likely that other signs of zinc deficiency, such as hair loss or a slow immune system, would be present as well. Occasionally, a few white spots on fingernails may indicate an allergic reaction to a product used on the nail, such as nail polish, hardener, or polish remover. ';What are the little white dots that sometimes show up in your fingernail?
am not sure really, I used to get them, and I was told it was lack of calcium, I never really changed my diet and i just dont get them anymore. What are the little white dots that sometimes show up in your fingernail?

  • Ladies, is it true that your fingernail polish has to match your toenail polish?

I'm getting a manicure and a pedicure this week and I want my nails to be polished and my toes to be french tip. On two or three occasions friends have asked me why dont your toes match your nails or vice versa? I also read somewhere that they are suppose to match. What do you think?Ladies, is it true that your fingernail polish has to match your toenail polish?
my fingernails %26amp; toenails never match-how boring!!!Ladies, is it true that your fingernail polish has to match your toenail polish?
I always make sure mine match...It's lust the way I do things so I don't look odd...But if you want them different it's your choice :o)
I think its cute to match them, but they don't have to match. Just whatever you feel more comfortable with.
My fingers are pink %26amp; white (well french like), and my toes are colored. It is FINE to have them different. Sometimes I will do them the same (pink %26amp; white), but I do like to have a little color on my toes every now and then. Girl, you do what makes YOU happy! :)
i have never got my nails done professionally, bnut no they dont need too, it looks nice though. hope your nails turn out great!
I think it looks beter that way if ur toes mach ur finger nails but its totaly up to u but like i said i like toes and fingers to mach.
I don't think that it matters just as long as the nail polish matches the clothes you are wearing.
no not at all, you can do what ever you want with ur nails and toenails they dont have to match
They have to look good together, but they don't have to be the same color. I think that a light/hot pink or a baby/powder/sky blue would match it.
No. But it does look better if you are wearing peep toe shoes to have your nails matching.

If you don't want them to match, no need to.

My finger nails are french, sometimes rainbow while my toes are either pink or black. [:

I have a bruise on my fingernail that wont go away wut should i do?

A couple of weeks ago back in December, i accidently slammed my right middle finger in a door and it hurt for about a day and now the bruise is still there. Should I be concerned?I have a bruise on my fingernail that wont go away wut should i do?
The bruise will remain there until the nail grows out more and the blood remaining where the injury took place breaks up and is reabsorbed into your body.

The bruise is actually under your finder nail, and will improve with time.I have a bruise on my fingernail that wont go away wut should i do?
    Hey Chris !

Yeah that bruise will go away. It just need a little time. I dropped a brick on my big toe and the bruise was there for like 4 months but soon all the blood in that area broke up and the bruise went away.
Just let it grow! i have one too its been there for about a month and still has not went away so it will take time!
    nope.

    give it another 2-3 weeks.

or until your nail has grown out.

    it'll go away.
No worries, so long as your finger feels ok.. your nail grow and the bruise will move towards the tip of your finger and you can trim it off.
its probably just a blood blister underneath your nail. let it grow out for about two weeks or so, and it should be gone by then. if not, three weeks. if not then, ask your doctor. :]

:DDo you know any good fingernail designs?
Get lots of different colours of nail polish, get neon colours too, metallic, whatever you want. Do french manicures, and if you are skilled enough, do patterns on each fingernail using different colours on one nail, or do each nail a different colour. Be creative.
I would buy those nail art pens at a beauty supplies store. And then with a pencil draw some designs on a sheet of paper for people to pick from. Things like lines, dots, flowers (they are just a big dot with little dots around it or a big dot with lines around it.)

Any good advice on quitting fingernail biting?

I have been biting my fingernails ever since I can remember. It's more habit now than anything, not a nervous reaction or anything like that. Secondly, my nails seem to be super thin. When they grow to a certain point, they buckle and eventually break before getting a real good chance to grow.

So my questions are, does anyone have any good sure fire advice on quitting? Are there any products that can ';thicken'; a finernail so they can grow stronger and last much longer? And, how can I overcome the ';need'; and break this nasty habit?

Thanks all.Any good advice on quitting fingernail biting?
Try Sally Hanson products they have a great nail thickener, and to avoid the biting they do have something its like a bitters I just forgot the name of the product but if you ask at a wal mart or sally beauty supply they would knowAny good advice on quitting fingernail biting?
I cannot recall the name of it, but there is a type of fingernail polish that does thicken your fingernails to make them stronger and lost longer, but also contains a bitter agent that you would not enjoy the taste of and help you stop biting your nails.

Had to add it when I found it. Look at link below.
Nail biting is a reflex habit. You need to break the cycle from nail to mouth. Either wear gloves until the problem goes away or if you can't do that then buy the hottest chillies you can obtain and rub slices of it on your fingernails. You can also buy a special varnish from Chemists which taste awful but the fire of the chillies gives a better whomph
that is merely a habit of your choice. its all in your will if you will stop it or not. if you want....there is what we call in psychology as desensitization process for altering/removing bad behaviors, but you will need a psychologist for this. the process is better for kids since they are not aware of their behaviors. for you, i think you are already an adult, its all your WILL.

also, everytime you feel the urge, try emersing your fingers or (call someone to do it for you) on a liquid you find odd to be tasted or on your own urine so that you will find disgusting to bite your fingers anyway.
Vaseline Intensive Hand and Nail Care.

Guaranteed to help your nails become stronger and quickly too. I use it as many others I know.

Also start affirming that you 'see' strong healthy nails and choose not to see them as they are at present. Energy grows where focus goes.

Does the moon of your fingernail grow,if the skin is tight at the quick or the bottom tight to the finger?

If the skin is loosened on the bottom of the fingernail, will the moon appear,or grow with the nail,if the skin is kept loose? Is this the same with every fingernail?Does the moon of your fingernail grow,if the skin is tight at the quick or the bottom tight to the finger?
It has nothing to do with how tight or loose the skin is as it is embedded under/into the nail. The moon is genetic and some people don't have them. So if you don't have the moon it is through no fault of your own and there is nothing you can do to make them appear.

    you will need

    fine toothed metal nit comb

    tissue

    cotten balls

    acetone

    hair dryer

    cloth

    methyleted spirits

this is a time consuming and difficult task wrap the nit comb in tissue so the teeth are poking through (dont use a plastic one as the acetone will melt it) place the comb at an angle to the carpet and wedge it under the stain. dip a cotten ball in the acetone and rub it over the stain with the comb underneath the stain. work the stain row by row with a new cotten ball each time, acetone can affect carpet so make sure it dosnt penetrate the base, replace the tissue if it gets to wet, this process is slow and may need to be done a few times, if its an epoxy resin stain warm it with a hair dryer first, then dip a cloth in boiling water wring it and lay it over the stain and let it the cloth start to cool, then pinch and pull the cxloth a few times to remove as much resin as possible, do this a few times before doing it with the acetone and nit comb, use metho and water to remove the acetone smell, and sprinkle with bicarb to absorb the water and vacuumn when dry.

This exact thing happened to me when I first moved into my place. I used Woolite with Oxyclean, while it was still wet. I scrubbed like crazy and ruined the nap but it came out and it was blood red polish on cream carpeting. I think it was the Oxyclean that did it.

    Good Luck!
This happened to me once, and it was bright red toenail polish, I made the mistake of pouring nail polish remover on it and made it worse, I found out the hard way was to treat it like you would candle grease, put a brown paper bag on the stain and rub your iron over it, do this several times with a clean paper bag and you will find that it comes out

    good luck
You can try polish remover or rubbing alcohol,Oxly clean might work too. Or you can get a sample piece of carpet the same shade and style from a carpet store replace the spot that has been stained. By cutting it out and using carpet tape. That way no one will ever know. Good luck.

I'd wait for it to dry and try to scratch it off with your fingernail or maybe even a nail file. Using nail polish remover will burn a hole in your shirt.
Yes, never use remover on clothes because it will bleach them. What I use is Shout. Shout is my best friend for getting out stains. It isn't one of those fake products, it really helps!
nothing, ive done same thing. it stains.

Oh good grief! Can't you just look at it and see?One of my classmates touched my laptop screen with her fingernail. Does that mean my laptop got scratched?
no, unless you see a mark. the screen is a pliable polymer and is designed to not crack or crease unless forcibly punctured or scratched. fingerprints should be wiped off with a moist cotton clothOne of my classmates touched my laptop screen with her fingernail. Does that mean my laptop got scratched?
    Here are my step-by-step directions:

    1) TUrn Computer Off

    2) Look at screen and see if it looks scratched

    3) That's It.

Just because someone touches your screen, does not mean it is scratched, they are engineered to be semi-durrable.
Maybe. Look at it and see if there's a scratch. Could be scratches from your own use already anyways. She shouldn't have touched the screen, though!
one scratch won't make a noticeable difference. Unless her nail is really sharp or she pressed really hard it probably won't
    Look at it, and decide.
    NO MEANS NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have that same brand on my toes right now, (orange) and oh lord i hope it comes off, ha but i know it is a good nail polish because mine hasnt started chipping yet, other brands would be chipped and about off by now..

um as for the remover, try cutex, it is good and it is only like $2 at walmartWhat kind of fingernail polish remover should I use?
Are you using acetone nail polish remover? Acetone nail polish remover is stronger than non-acetone, and is typically used in nail salons to aide in the removing of acrylic nails. Make sure you moisturize your hands after using it, as it is very drying.
2 dollar shops have some good ones and supermarkets. They are onky around $3.00 for ones that actually work well.

I had 4 of my nails ripped off when I got in a fight. I was wearing acrylic nails. It took about 4 months for it to grow out. I was scared because two of my nails were completely ripped off, but my nails look normal now.How long will it take to grow a new fingernail? when will the old damaged one detach?
An old study found that nails grow more slowly

with age; growth rate at age 32 was 0.123mm/day, but by age 67 had decreased to 0.095mm/day. No variation with geographical location, physical activity, or season.
it depends on where the nail was damaged. if the nail bed was damaged, then the nail will not grow back and the old nail should be removed.
ouuuchhh it will take time for your nailbed to heal but yes it will grow back! I hope that your finger is okay! I did that once to my thumb!!

I slammed my finger in a window and my fingernail turned blueish-black?

A few days ago I was shutting my window and my finger got slammed with it. Now my almost my whole middle fingernail has turned blue/black. I hurt for a few days but now the pressure is just uncomfortable and its hurts just a tiny bit when you press on it. Will my fingernail fall off? What should I do?I slammed my finger in a window and my fingernail turned blueish-black?
calm down its only a bruise :D

and if your nail does fall off its fine. its done it to me and it just grows back.

good luck :DI slammed my finger in a window and my fingernail turned blueish-black?
ugh same thing happened to me excpet with a door. :S

Yeah mine turned a lovely shade of blackish-purple beofre coming completly off. Mine is growing back but it happened in like October and still isnt 100% better.

My doctor told me that if there is uncomfertable pressure or w/e you can heat up a paperclip and poke a hole in your nail. It's to relieve the pressure. but only do it if there is a lot of blood underneath the nail or it will REALLY hurt. but if there's enough blood it won't hurt at all and it will really help.

If your not sure weather or not to do that just go to your doctor and he/she could do it too.
sometimes it can fall off, but it wil grow back. it bruises just like any other part of your body. if it is too painfull you can go to your GP and get it burnt off, not painfull. don't worry, it is normal.
My friend did this to her fingernail It will eventually fall off then grow back but this process will take a long Time about 3 months
doubt it, it will probably lighten a bit then it will go away as your nail grows
nope its fine. its just a bruise under the nail. which is blood capillaries under the skin. ice it. it will be good.

Is there a way to smooth out my fingernail polish after it's dry?

I fell asleep before my nails were completely dry, and they're now imprinted from the texture of the sheets. Is there a way to smooth them out without repainting my nails? Is there a way to smooth out my fingernail polish after it's dry?
~Always wipe nails with a cloth before painting. Any oils left on the nails will prevent polish from sticking and increase the risk of chipping.

~If the nail chips, the best thing to do is remove the polish and begin again. If you don't have time, dip your finger in nail polish remover and smooth it over the chipped area to soften the edges. Now, repaint the chipped area and then cover with a clear top coat to reseal the nail.

~If you smudge nail polish while it's drying, dab your fingertip in remover and use it to smooth the surface, then repaint with a top coat.

~If nails break, the only thing you can do is cut them off. however, if the break is down low, take a teabag and cut a tiny strip of gauze. Apply this to the nail and paint over it with polish.

~Don't apply nail polish remover to gunky nail varnish as it will dry out the nail. Instead, use specialist thinners available from beauty stores.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!!Is there a way to smooth out my fingernail polish after it's dry?
just do like 5 runovers of clear nail polish, it makes it thick, but smooth, i do it and it works just fine.... but my nails are tiny and i keep them short all the time, i hate long nails !
Put some clear coat on and it will even it out and you will not even know that happened afterwards. I do that all the time, in fact I need to do it again lol
You can try to buff them out but more than likely you'll have to put on a extra coat or repaint them all together !
there's like a nail polish they sell in avon which evens and smoothes out your polish aftter its dry
    top coat and a buffer

Did anybody smash their finger and then develop a hump in the middle of the fingernail afterwards?

this happened to me. the nail never fell off, but now i have a little hump on it. you can't see it, but i can feel it.Did anybody smash their finger and then develop a hump in the middle of the fingernail afterwards?
Yes, it happened to my big toe nail and took almost a year to grow out.Did anybody smash their finger and then develop a hump in the middle of the fingernail afterwards?
When i smashed my finger the doctor like drilled a hold in the middle of the nail to relieve the pressure(and keep the nail from falling off/forming a bump) You may have to look into that if the bump doesn't go away after a while. If it's red..like it's welling with fresh blood, go to the doctor and have him relieve the pressure!
ya itll grow out in months

Why the black fingernail in film The matrix?

In the scene where he receives the mobile phone in his office, Neo is seen to be sporting a long black half painted finger nail. Is this of any importance or just something Keanu must have been trying out?Why the black fingernail in film The matrix?
    ';I hadn鈥檛 even seen the movie when I interviewed Reeves, but was intrigued by him and his decision to star in a movie by the directors of Bound, a lesbian murder mystery. The scruffy Reeves, back then, in 1999, walked into the suite at The Ritz Carlton in Pasedena wearing a suit, shirt, no tie, and sported a pair of fingernails painted in black polish. I left the interview thinking, this dude has probably made his last film and will never work in Hollywood again.';

';At the end of our interview, I pluck up the courage to ask him something that had been bothering me since the start: why is one of the sexiest men alive wearing purple nail varnish?

    Released from the burden of answering questions about his romantic interests, his present accommodation and his emotional state, Keanu lets out a big grin. ';Oh, the old nail polish. Joel Silver is hating me right now. He's like: 'You're not going to talk about the movie. She's going to ask about the nails!';

    Satisfied that he's answered this question at least, he takes a slow sip of ice-water and waits to battle another taxing inquiry. It takes me a moment to realise that I'm none the wiser about the nail polish. Weird, man, just weird.';

Should I cut off the part of the fingernail that is loosely attached or should I leave it on?I cut my fingernail and nail bed halfway down the nail. Should i cut the hanging part off or leave it on?
cut it off as close to the nail bed as possible. You don't want that thing to catch on anything and tear off.I cut my fingernail and nail bed halfway down the nail. Should i cut the hanging part off or leave it on?
u will want 2 cut it off as close to the nail bed as possible. if u leave it, it can catch on something and tear off, which can be super painful and go down even further. plus it may bleed.

    the moral is...

    grating cheese is dangerous!

Why are schools forbidding the use of black fingernail polish?

I'm in high school and recently got a leter in the mail reminding students of the dress code before school restarts. I was reading over them and noticed that starting this year, our school forbids the use of black fingernail polish. Black is the only color metioned and they provided no clue as to why.Why are schools forbidding the use of black fingernail polish?
Because schools like to forbid free thought and individualism. They think its goth and satanic and it will poison the minds of the religious in the school. **** that, wear it everyday and tell the school where they can shove it.Why are schools forbidding the use of black fingernail polish?
Ive never heard of anything like this before,i think its kind of silly, but in my opinion, the only reason why they would do this is because it might make other students feel bad for some sort of reasons,or it might be a distraction because.....EX: When i see people with black fingernail polish on,i have a tendincy to look at it in a odd way,but i dont see why any school should not allow this anyway though....
Teachers who have to check on the dress code and behaviour of students often get reaaally petty and silly about little things. Maybe the head particularly hates black nailpolish (I bet his daughter is a goth and he hates it).

The best thing is to put up with it. Very soon you'll be out of school and the rest of your life you can dress the way you like and have any colour nail polish on.
No idea, they probably think it's not as girly and cute as shades of read. Whatever, just put it on Friday night and take it off on Sunday again.

unless your a mom, haha. well actually, you ucan rock that too =)What colors of fingernail polish are good for someone in their 20's?
a subtle glitter would be fine but an over the top glitter looks weird on anyone. I would suggest a deep red or blue or something darker because us young ones want to stand out with neon and bright colours I tend to wear a deep amber so hope this helps
    Metallic blue would be amazing.

I love metallic/chrome colours, it also depends what colours of clothes you usually wear.
at this age i recon you can pull anything off

its around 50 when it gets wierd having pink sparkly barbie nails ROFL
You should go with dark purple, almost black. If your nails are long, you should try the following french manicures:

    Brown with gold tips

    Black with silver tips
i say nude colors, like the light pinks and browns, the ones that match your skin tone
blue .. metallic .. hot pink ( theres no age limit for hot pink), nude
pale pink with a little shimmer in. always works for me :)

I sometimes (just for fun) make an ';X'; shape in my mosquitos bites, and somehow they feel better, can someone explain why?Why is it that mosquito bites feel better when you create an indention with your fingernail upon the bite?
Because you are creating a ';new'; pain over the pain/discomfort of the mosquito bite. Seems strange but it totally works - I actually learned that in psychology! Your psyche is now focused on the x, not the bite...

They say make each x line for 5 seconds each and it not only makes it feel better but makes the swelling go down too.Why is it that mosquito bites feel better when you create an indention with your fingernail upon the bite?
Do you notice when you do that clear liqid comes out? With my bites that happens and I figure its because the poison is being forced out and the reason they become itchy again is because the poison seeps back in though your pores

Is it ';normal'; to have hairline cracks (that I can feel with my fingernail) in my kitchen granite countertop?

We recently had new granite countertop installed in our kitchen (granite type: antique brown), and after installation (within one month) multiple hairline cracks have started to appear on one of the slabs (a 2.3 metre piece).

These cracks are very visible, especially in certain light, and when you run your fingernail along you can noticeably feel the crack. These cracks appear to only be on the surface and do not appear to go through the depth of the granite (when looking at the edges).

I have had the granite supplier come to view but they are not concerned with it and tell me these are natural parts of the granite. However my concern is that the cracks only started to appear after it was installed, and what really bothers me is that they look like cracks and you can feel them with your fingers.

Is this normal for granite, and if not, what should I do (get them to repair it - if possible - or replace it?Is it ';normal'; to have hairline cracks (that I can feel with my fingernail) in my kitchen granite countertop?
    according to granitebydesign.ca:

Q: Does granite have any pits or fissures?

A: Yes granite has natural pits and fissures that are part of the stones natural structure. Some types of granite have more of such characteristics than other types, and pits can be minimized by applying sealer to the surface of the counter.

    Q: Can granite crack?

No, not with the ordinary use. Granite is most susceptible to cracks during shipping and installation. Normal use will not overstress this durable material.

    Q: Can granite be repaired?

A: It is very hard to damage granite. If any damage occurs it can be sealed with a mixture of epoxy and ground up chips of granite.

either these cracks are supposed to be there or the folks aren't concerned because they screwed up and don't want to fix it.Is it ';normal'; to have hairline cracks (that I can feel with my fingernail) in my kitchen granite countertop?
As a home builder, if I was experiencing what you are experiencing with your new counter tops, I would insist that they rectify the problem. What you have described does not sound normal to me. It sounds as though they are trying to dodge repairing a bad installation.
I would be very concerned if those hairline cracks were right on the edge of the granite. My sister had granite tops installed by Lowes about 3 years ago and they seemed to have a 3 edge cracks that one could feel with a finger nail. Those eventually did expand and run across the counter top.

Lowes did come and remove the tops and refunded her money. She thought those granite tops were the worst thing that had been reinvented ever. She went back to formica tops which are smooth and easy to clean. No more silicone oil for her.

How do you treat an ingrown FINGERnail?

My husband has a very inflamed and PAINFUL ingrown FINGERnail. Not toenail. Is there any way to treat this from home? Clearly, it is infected. He keeps asking me if it can just run its course, without leading to him having to go to a doctor, which he refuses to do. And perhaps he doesn't even have to go to a doctor, but I would like to be sure.

He has been spraying it with freezing spray for the pain and taking Ibuprofen, as well. Aside from that, he has taken nothing. He is using a lot of Antibacterial cream and is (finally) keeping it covered with a bandage.

Does anyone know anything about how he should treat this and how he can REMOVE the piece of nail that exists in there.

Thanks. How do you treat an ingrown FINGERnail?
If it's infected, he should probably see a doctor. If he refuses, try this: to get the nail to stop growing into the finger, soak it in warm water with epsom salts for 15 minutes. The warm water will soften the nail and the epsom salts will help if it's infected. Then wedge a small piece of wet cotton under the nail where it is growing inwards to keep the edge from cutting into the skin and to allow the nail to grow out so it can be trimmed. The illustration is for a toenail, but it's the same idea: http://body.aol.com/tools/how-to-treat-a鈥?/a>How do you treat an ingrown FINGERnail?
My husband had the same thing. We soaked his figure in Epson Salt and warm water. It got better and didn't hurt anymore in a day or so.
send him to the urgent care.
Try a Gogle search on it

What can I do about a fingernail that was smashed and eventually fell off?

I smashed my pinky finger about 2 months ago pretty good. It turned black (dark red from blood) but stayed attached for 2 months. There was a healthy portion going long ways on it, so it didn't fall off at first. But there was a big lump in 1 part, so i trimmed it down. After I trimmed it down, i realized it was basically hollow where the dried blood had been. I tried to leave it alone but seeing that I could pick the blood out made me anxious to do so. i ended up cutting the 'dead' part of my nail off totally and getting out the dried blood. But now 80% of my fingernail is gone and there is only a slightly tougher layer of skin where it used to be. I have a small bit of new nail that had grown in for the first 2 months, but what should i do with the rest of my nail? What can I do to make it grow faster/stronger? Is there any chance of infection even though there is absolutely no area that is broken open any more? Should I trim off the healthy part so it doesn't get snagged? What can I do about a fingernail that was smashed and eventually fell off?
You should have gone to the doctor for this instead of trying to treat it yourself. Leave it alone and let the new nail grow out. No there is nothing you can do to make it grow any faster. It could take a year or more after a trauma like that. Just trim the corners so they don't snag and tear it down into the quick (middle of the nail bed). No, if it's not open any longer there is no chance of infection. Just let it be.What can I do about a fingernail that was smashed and eventually fell off?
Leave it alone and it will grow back
That happened to me a couple of times. It takes a long (long) time for the nail to grow back. Keep it trimmed so it doesn't catch on things. My nail looks fine now except for a little ridge. It does have more of a roundness than it used to but nobody would ever notice that but me.
This recently happened to me during cross country. My nail was constantly rubbing against my sneaker while i was running. It is slowly but surly growing back. The only thing that you can really do is wait for it to grow back, and make sure it doesn't get infected!
Leave it alone if you can, put a bandaid on it if you want, that will keep it from getting snagged on anything. Nothing will make it grow faster but eating gelatin will make all of your nails stronger. If there is no broken skin, then there is almost no chance of infection. Keep it clean anyway.
Your nail will grow back - it just takes time. It happened to me and a new nail came through even nicer and stronger than the one before.

Keep it filed so it doesn't catch on anything.
Your doing fine, It'll grow back. Protein seems to help nails and hair grow faster and stronger.

What does having to take off fingernail polish to do with kidney surgery?

my friend is getting surgery on her kidney, getting it removed, and the doctor told her she couldnt have on toenail polish..... does anyone know why? What does having to take off fingernail polish to do with kidney surgery?
They need to look at finger and toe nails as they can tell if she is getting oxygen to all of her extremities. What does having to take off fingernail polish to do with kidney surgery?
Anytime you go into surgery and will be anesthised you need to remove finger and toe polish. They check for oxygen and a lack of oxygen causes your nails to be bluish.
i dont know about fingernail polish but i do know that some deodorants have aluminum in it and your body can absorb it. So people with kidney problems need to be careful about that.

yea sorry for not being much help though..

How long will it take my fingernail to grow after cutting it????????

Half of my middle fingernail had a fungus and yesterday I decided to cut it all and I was left with half of a fingernail and I wanted to know how long it would take my fingernail to grow back.

    I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?br>

10 points who ever gives me a good answer and it has to be true and please don't play around. How long will it take my fingernail to grow after cutting it????????
Nails, like hair, grow from the matrix. As older cells grow out, they are replaced by newer ones, they are compacted and take on a hardened form. The average growth rate for nails is 0.1 mm each day; individual rates depend on age, time of year, activity level, and heredity. Fingernails grow faster than toenails. Nails also grow more rapidly in the summer than in the winter. Nails on a person's dominant hand (right vs. left) grow faster, and men's nails grow more quickly than women's, except possibly during pregnancy and old age. Nail growth is affected by disease, hormone imbalance, and the aging process. How long will it take my fingernail to grow after cutting it????????
watch and see, then give us a report. How often do you cut your nails? that should give you a good idea on how long it will take.
Well if we talking about the middle finger thats the second biggest nail on your hand or toe after the thumb. I will say from past experience that it will take about 2 to 4 weeks for it to grow to normal size.
For girls it takes about two weeks to grow back. but for guys i takes a little longer
I unfortunately caught my finger in the chain of a bike turned upside down and had the tip of my finger severed. After the tip was sewn back on my fingernail fell off and I had to wait about 4 months before it grew back all the way. I qould estimate a 2 month time table for your nail to grow back but as another poster said, everyone has a differing healing process but on the average we are all about the same. Good luck and be patient even though I know it is difficult healing process to wait thru.
The answer to this question is akin to the answer to the question 'How long is a piece of string?' You'll find that everybody's fingernail growth rates are different. It also depends how much fingernail you wish to grow. Some people leave their nails grow way passed the tips of their fingers (particularly females) and others prefer to cut them short. I have estimated (not a guess, mind you) that my thumbnail (right hand) is 16mm long. By memory it takes around 6-7 days for 3mm of growth to form. This quite obviously means that if I were to cut my nail right back to the skin and let it regrow it would take around one month (maybe slightly longer) for my thumbnail to regrow. I've also noticed in the past that my nails do not grow at the same rate. In conclusion the best way to find this out for yourself is to decide the question you want to answer and measure it on yourself.
    It takes times to grow.

What would cause the white tip part of the fingernail to start showing white in the middle of the fingernail?

where it is the pink part? My mom's pinky fingernails have started doing this. Like if you cut your nail straight across, with all the white tip part off, the white part is still on hers down in the middle of the pink part. Geeze this is hard to explain...I hope someone can understand and help me with this. At the moment she is without insurance so going to the doctor isn't an option. What would cause the white tip part of the fingernail to start showing white in the middle of the fingernail?
Is the nail lifting? Sometimes I notice that since I have had artificial nails taken off that my nails tend to lift and the white area is way down below. Is the the nail looking like maybe it has a fungus? What would cause the white tip part of the fingernail to start showing white in the middle of the fingernail?
I just quit doing my nails and do not use polish or anything and keep them cut as short as possible. Try cutting them down and using a nail anti fungus on them that might help.

white discoloration or spots or striate lesions may be due to trauma and are more frequetly seen in women .Transverse white bands in all nails may be a sign of acute or chronic arsenic poisoning or,rarely of thallium acetate poisoning.

if it is only one nail it is probably nothing to worry about.

otherwise it is worth a trip to the doctor.
I have one that does that... I got that finger slammed in a door a few years back and it does that now. I don't know what it could be if that's not what happened.
    calcium defficiency i think!

    xx
it could be that she just damaged the nail, whenever i hit the 'pink part' of my nail on something a white spot forms where i hit it. its almost like a bruise on your nail. good luck!
It could be that she damaged the nail bed and that's how it will grow out forever or she could have a fungal infection under that nail and it is lifting it away from the tissue underneath.

If it's an infection, it needs treated so it doesn't spread to the other nails.

She could get a fungal infection from fake nails or it can be transferred from the foot to the hand or even from someone in the family who has a nail problem by handling their socks while doing laundry.
That happened to me when I slammed a finger (at the nail) between the gas pump thingy and the pump (hanging it back up). It didn't show at first but later, after the bruise/ blood cleared it was white.

How do I get pink fingernail polish out of plush light carpet? I already tried polish remover with acetone?

A few weeks ago, I got red polish all over blue carpet, and I searched the internet to figure out how to get it out. This worked completely.

    What you will need::

    * Dry Cleaning Fluid

    * Soft Dry Cloth

    * non bleach, non alkaline mild detergent

    * Ammonia

*Febreeze [the room will smell horrid after you're done]

    Tips %26amp; Warnings

    * Dry cleaning fluid can be purchased at a home supply store or a dry cleaners.

    * Always test the cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous area of the carpet before applying them to a large area.

    * Use a white cloth rather than a colored one to prevent any dyes from coming off on the carpet.

    * As you blot, keep turning the cloth so that you are using a clean, dry section to pick up the stain and the cleaning fluids from the carpet. Don't rub.

    * If using a brush to help clean the stain, always brush from the outer edges of the spill inward to prevent the stain from spreading.

    * Do not use nail-polish remover as it may bleach the carpet.

    Step One

Pour dry cleaning fluid over the stain.

    Step Two

Blot with a dry, white cloth

    Step Three

Apply a small amount of mild liquid detergent to the stain.

    Step Four

    Blot again with the cloth.

    Step Five

    Flood the stain with water.

    Step Six

    Blot again with the cloth.

    or maybe pure lemon juice
try hairspray then after u sprayed alot of hairspray on it wet a sponge or rag with cold water %26amp; then try to rub it out. the more hairspray the better, good luck, nobrethequeen p.s. also try simple green if the hairspray doesn't work.
    Bleach it out!!!
The Spot Bot! Really annoying commercial, but it works.
    maybe scrubbing it would work.
some nailpolish may not come out.
If it isn't in too deeply, you might be able to trim it out with a small pair of scissors. like fingernail scissors.
Have you tried freezing it? Get some ice cubes and when it's frozen, just pick it off.
You might have to get some nail clippers and just snip off the part that has nail polish on it. That stuff is impossible to remove.
Get a fine toothed metal nit-comb and wrap it in a tissue so that the teeth come through the tissue (a plastic comb will melt). Put the comb at an angle to the base of the carpet and wedge underneath the stain. Dip a cottonwool ball in acetone and rub over the stain with the comb underneath. Work row by row and use a fresh cottonwool ball for each row. Make sure acetone does not reach carpet base. Replace tissue if wet. May need to be repeated a few times. Use methylated spirits and water to get rid of the smell of acetone. Good luck!

What does it mean when someone paints their fingernail black?

for me it reflects what kind of person he/she is. to some its fashion. What does it mean when someone paints their fingernail black?
it means that they are going to catch gonorrhea tomorrow. What does it mean when someone paints their fingernail black?
NOthing that it is just your fashion sense :D
most people assume that the person is emo, i think not! i know plenty of people who paint their nails black, and they AREN'T emo. hey, i paint mine black!
that they happen to like wearing black nail varnish just like some people like french polish
    They like black fingernails, maybe?

    .
it's just a color. when i was younger and sometimes now i paint them black. and im a TOTAL girly girl.
it means they put black nailpolish on their finger nails
Well that depends on their personality and what season it is. Goths and emo fashion statements usually do the black nails. Halloween prompts black nails sometimes. Some people just like to paint their nails black. It just depends on who you talk to.
Mostly it's a fashion statement, but sometimes it means that they are emo or goth, especially for guys.
it dosent mean anything. It is like painting their nails any other color. It is very widely used on the runways, and so every year after fashion week, you will see many people with black nails.... but it is no doffrent then pink polish... just a color.
It's just a personal choice. I wear black polish sometimes, and I am not ';emo';, (Is anyone else sick of that term/label?!) Black is just a nice accent for nails, I don't think it has any specific meaning, although I can't speak for everyone who paints their nails black : )
    Nothing.
    Umm they picked that color?

Pshhh.black nail polish dosen't mean your emo people need to get a life.
It means the same thing as when they paint their nails green, pink, yellow, red, or anything.
nothing it means they like black
i currently have black fingernails...i've had them white or black since september...to me its just a fashion statement..not my mood...im not permanently dismal. if you've seen the fashion runways..blacks just another color
Black nail polish is just a fashion statement. I personally think black is an excellent color for nail polish.

Why does it not hurt when your fingernail touches the rack of an oven/cookie sheet?

I had to flip something I was cooking over and the fingernail of my pointer finger touched the bottom of the cookie sheet. It didn't hurt at all and I barely felt anything; I tried it again on the oven rack and it also didn't hurt. Are the nerves on the fingernails not sensitive or something? Why does it not hurt when your fingernail touches the rack of an oven/cookie sheet?
It doesn't hurt because your nails do not have nerve endings, they are a protein based growth from your body and have no feelings just like your hair. That is why it doesn't hurt to cut your nails or hair, unless you contact the skin. Why does it not hurt when your fingernail touches the rack of an oven/cookie sheet?
There are no nerves, like your hair. Its just dead material growing out of you.
There are no sensory nerves in your fingernails, that's also why it doesn't hurt if you bite/cut them.

Basically the same as if you cut your hair.
you don't have nerves in your nails.
Your fingernails are like dead skin cells

So they don't have any nerves....
Fingernails are like hair, they are only alive right where they form (root / nail bed) that is why it doesn't hurt to clip your nails or have your hair cut but if a hair or nail is pulled out, ow.
There are no nerves in your finger nails,

It's the same thing when you pull your hair, your head hurts, not the hair.

    They both have dead cells.
because your finger nails dont have nerve endings
They don't have nerves in them, your fingernails are basically a growing dead part of your body.
finger nails are made up of dead cells,...and are really thick...that's why we don't sense much through them...besides, they don't have much of nerves to be sensitive enough
Your fingernails are not alive, there are no nerves in them, like your hair. This is why cutting your nails doesn't hurt! Extended contact would hurt and harm you, since the heat will go through the nail eventually and reach the living tissue below, but a short touch won't go through the thicker material that quickly.

The only living part of the nail is the ';quick';, at the base of the nail, which makes the nail itself; and the bed of tissue underneath.
cuz it has no sensation and it does not conduct heat
    maybe it didn't transfer heat?
they have no sensors for anything,
because you don't have any nerves in your nails
    There aren't nerves in fingernails.
Actually , There Are no nerves in your fingernails so you dont feel the pain!

Actually, I'm not really sure about that. When your fingernail layers can be partly peeled off, does that mean youre lacking a vitamin?

    It's just some dead cells.

That's why it doesn't hurt when you cut your fingernails off.
Usually Vitamin E is best for finger nail and cuticle growth.

How long should you wait for your fingernail polish to dry?

I typically let my nails sit for about 10 minutes, but really they could stay slighty tacky and dentable for up to an hour depending on the quality of the polish (also, if the polish is no-chip, it'll take longer to dry. If its speed dry ... typically a cheaper brand, they dry much quicker, within about 10 minutes.)How long should you wait for your fingernail polish to dry?
5 minutes should be okay depending with the number of coats you applied.A single coat usually dries faster than many. How long should you wait for your fingernail polish to dry?
i wait like 10 minutes. but always remember the darker the color the longer you should wait.
what i do if i need my nails to dry in a hurry is use pam cooking spray. it really works! just paint your nails and mist a little cooking spray over the top coat of your nails and that should speed up the drying process. It should take about 30-45 minutes for your nails to completely dry though-unless you want dents and scratched paint. good luck with this! :) hope i helped.
It's best to wait 5 minutes in between each coat. Some polishes will take longer than others.
That actually depends on the type of color. The milky nail polishes can sometimes take about two hours--and that's on a day that's not too humid. The sheer colors can dry as quickly as 30 minutes after they're done. When I say ';dry';, I mean dry as in you can touch something and not leave a dent in your nail. That happens to me all the time.
    5 minutes?
It all depends on the polish, but putting a bit of rubbing alcohol on the nail 1st really speeds up the process and helps the polish last longer.
    at least 5 min.
Put your nails under the faucet with cold water, they dry in seconds.

Is using a pair of regular fingernail clippers to trim a cats claws ok?

my uncles girlfriend said it's ok to trim a cats claws with fingernail clippers but i was told from somewhere that that isn't good for a cats claws that you should use trimmers especially for cats. So i was wondering who is right. Is using a pair of regular fingernail clippers to trim a cats claws ok?
there's a lot of answers on this, but i suggest you use cat clippers because you may hurt their toes if you don't do it properly. Is using a pair of regular fingernail clippers to trim a cats claws ok?
Although human nails contain the same material as cats claws the construction is different and the two require different trimming techniques.

Cats claws require a guillotine type cutter that won't crush the claw which can make it split. When a cats claw splits it does so right up to the 'quick' and that can be extremely painful for the cat. Some cats are more prone to this than others.

The whole debate is pointless in our house. In 40 years I have never trimmed or had to trim a cats claws. If the cat is an outdoor cat or has a proper scratching post nail trimming is unnecessary. The nail simply grows to a predetermined length and falls off anyway.
At the moment i have 13 cats and all have been clipped every few weeks with regular clippers for fingernails..the larger cats i find it easier to use the toenail clippers(please be careful i have enough exp to feel confident and very well behaved cats. I have been clipping nails on cats since 96 and have done over 45 different cats with no issues. 2 vets also recomended to use fingernail clippers...one other told me to bring cat in monthly...yeahhhhhh
    Sure

I think the clippers designed especially for cats is supposed to not ';crush'; their toenail as much or something, and they're pretty cheap, so there's no reason NOT to get one, but a human clipper will work too, if not quite as good.

I have cat nail clippers, but there have been times I've used human nail clippers (hey, if the cat climbs in your lap while you're doing your toes and you realize he needs a trim too, you just go for it!) and nothing bad happens. I do think it leaves a sharper edge than the cat clippers do, though.
You shouldn't if you can avoid it, but I guess you could. Just be VERY careful... Cats have blood vessels in their claws that do not clot easily. Not only would your cat be in A LOT of pain, the blood would be hard to stop and it poses a serious threat to blood-loss. If you own a cat, I HIGHLY suggest buying a pair of kitty claw trimmers. They will run you anywhere from $5-$15 unless you look for expensive automatic ones like the ';Pedi-Paws'; thing or whatever.
That's what we always reach for.

I think that they had loops for your finger and thumb, regular clippers might be the perfect things to clip cat's claws with.

If they weren't so likely to slip when you are positioning them, before clipping, they would be great - that's were the loops would come in.
Nooooo, do not use nail clippers for cats!!!! They can splinter the claw and cause damage to the vein and nerves that run down the claw.

Use proper cats claw-clippers. Always make sure not to cut them too far up, or they will bleed. Its sort of obvious that if they bleed, they hurt. If you care enough to clip your cats claws, then you likely care if you're hurting it.
No. NEVER use regular fingernail clippers on cats. If you use them it might pinch the skin UNDERNEATH the nails and cause them great pain. Nevertheless, how could you be able to do it anyways, the nails are curved, unlike the nailclippers.
Well I had the same question so I called my vet and she told me to use toenail clippers on my cat. So I had my boyfriend do it and it worked just be careful and don't cut them to short because it will cause your cat to be in pain.
It's best to use cat clippers made especially for cats' claws. Their claws are different than our fingernails and require something a little different. Hope this answers your question!
Maybe you should call your vet and ask him/her what kinds of things to use to cut cats claws. He/ She will know what to use.
YES u can use them but don;t go to far to make them bleed i would suggest not cutting them at all they will fall out when they get to long and they will grow back.

you don't really need to do anything special ..your new fingernail will grow back quickly ...it might not be perfect when it first grows but it show as the other one was soon although mine grows a little bit flat on the edges and is more fragile but no one can tell the difference unless I tell them what to look for ..just keep your hands clean as you would usually and be patientWhat do i do my fingernail came off?
This happened when i was in a building class about 6 months ago. A hammer fell on my big toenail. It was a bluish blackish color and was constantly pulsing. What i always did was: NEVER WORE CLOSE UP SHOES! IT seems that how u described your new nail with black stuff on it? There should be a bump, thats ur new nail. Never wear socks, shoes, ect. Now, is there any exposed muscle or just black stuff? If theres exposed muscle, thats bad. now, just lightly gently run the fingernail under lukewarm water. Then dab it with a tissue or cloth. If if didnt come off and hate looking at it, just cover it LIGHTLY with a bandage. Take it off every night. your new nail should be there about jan-feb 2009.

I have this new shirt that's blue and polka dotted, that I JUST spilled nail polish ALL OVER. And these new jeans that I also spilled it on!!! How can I freaking get it out?!!!!!!!!How do I get a fingernail polish stain out of clothing?
Hi....sorry about your accident. I don't have a solution for you, but I can tell you what NOT to do because I had a similar accident last year. I spilled red polish on my favorite jeans and thought fingernail polish remover should get it right out (or at least reasy for washing.) WRONG!! It did nothing more than spread the color on the jeans and actually made the stained area much worse. How do I get fingernail polish out of carpet?? I have a 6yr old diva!!!?

    Nail Polish Removal from Carpet

Before using any of the methods outlined below, first test the process on a hidden or inconspicuous area to make sure they don鈥檛 damage or discolor your carpet.

    Method 1: Scissors

If the stain is very small and confined to the tips of the carpet fibers, you may be able to cut away the stained portions. Don鈥檛 try this on larger stains though - taking off too much WILL be noticeable.

    Method 2: OxyClean

    1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

    2. Make an OxyClean paste by adding just a tiny bit of water to a about a teaspoon or two of OxyClean powder.

    3. Cover the stain with the paste, saturating it and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes.

    4. Gently scrub the stain with a scrub-brush until the stain has diminished.

    5. If discoloration remains, re-saturate the stain with more paste, allow it dry, then vacuum up the remaining OxyClean powder. Repeat until the stain is either gone, nor no longer lightens.

    Method 3: Acetone

    1. Using a blunt edge (like that of a non-serrated butter knife or spoon), gently scrape up any excess from the surface .

    2. Dab the surface of the stain with a clean, white towel soaked in an acetone solution (either acetone based nail polish remover or acetone from your local hardware store). Be very careful 鈥?if the acetone saturates the carpet it can dissolve the backing underneath the carpet! This will also dissolve any stain-guard treatments in the area in which it is used.

    3. Just have patience and continue gently dabbing the area. Light and gentle scrubbing with a toothbrush may also be used. If you think the carpet is getting oversaturated, immediately stop and dab the area with a clean, dry towel to remove excess acetone.

    4. Repeat steps 2-3 until the stain is gone. How do I get fingernail polish out of carpet?? I have a 6yr old diva!!!?
Depending on the fibers, use nailpolish remover. Test an inconspicuous corner first. Or if it is a shaggy rug, snip the polish out with a scissors. Good Luck1How do I get fingernail polish out of carpet?? I have a 6yr old diva!!!?

Try hair spray, or oxy clean.. They work great on almost everything..
You are stuck. Dont put oil on your pant, then you'll have an oil stain and you still won't have all the polish out. don't heat the polish, it will tend to get gooey...

Polish remover will also take out the color of the pants...so you choose.
first ,heat it up with your hair dryer and scrape off as much as you can .eucalyptus oil should get the rest out and then squeeze the spot with a paper towel to get the most of the oil out or wash straight away

Can i fix my fingernail growing improperly due to a scar?

Several years ago i cut the tip of my middle find pretty badly with a knife. now my fingernail grows with a small line down it that is smaller than a hair, where the nail is weak, and when my nail grows too long it splits about a millimeter into where it leaves the finger-tip and one side starts to flake and hurt. I try to just keep it trimmed but the flaking happens on its own sometimes. It's not like one side falls off, just flakes. Can i fix my fingernail growing improperly due to a scar?
The nail is growing improperly due to damage to the nail bed (the scar). Unfortunately this damage is permanent. There are two ways to help. Increase your protein intake. Hair and nails are made from a protein called keratin and if you get a bit more meat in your diet they'll become naturally stronger. The other is a nail strengthening solution. They're sold in most good beauty supply stores and can be quite useful. The question about this answer is if you are willing to buy it yourself.
