What are the little white dots that sometimes show up in your fingernail?

am not sure really, I used to get them, and I was told it was lack of calcium, I never really changed my diet and i just dont get them anymore. What are the little white dots that sometimes show up in your fingernail?
i have always been told they are caused by nutritional deficiencies, such as a calcium deficiency
I was always told it was from misbehaving, a spot for each time. LOL
it just means you haven't had enough calcium!!!
